More Summer Fun

SWIMMING

Callie and Luke are swimming machines. Callie just finished swimming lessons (she passed) and is on the swim team. We also recently joined the JCC Swim and Tennis Club so the kids have been spending every day swimming and playing at the club. Callie had her first swim meet this week. She did great! We don't know the results yet, but she looked really good.

This is Luke using a trick he learned from the baby gorilla at the Bronx Zoo...see below.

BRONX ZOO
We took a day trip to the Bronx Zoo over the 4th of July weekend. It was our first trip to the zoo and we loved it. Callie loved feeding the animals at the petting zoo, especially her new friend the white goat, in her own words it was "actually really fun Daddy". Her other favorite part was "watching the camels poop." Luke loved the Gorilla's. He spent a long time watching the baby gorilla "pick the yuckies out of his nose". It turned out to be a great day.

The camel rides were great.

The kids made masks in the activity center.
Jason made a couple new friends while the kids made their masks. It was the highlight of his trip.

Fourth of July
We had a fun 4th of July. We spent the morning at the JCC playing on the indoor playground. Then we bought the kids new bikes. We went the the Hartford Riverfest in the afternoon and did our little fireworks display in the backyard before bed. Luke and Vivian couldn't handle the noise and had to go to bed before fireworks.
This is Jason thinking "Next year we are getting some illegal fireworks...this is so lame!"

GOODBYE 2ND GRADE
Callie was sad to see 2nd Grade come to an end. She loved school this year and did very well. She was especially sad to say goodbye to Miss Vannie.
Running
The whole family has been running. Callie and Luke ran in their first race at Celebrate West Hartford. The both received a metal for finishing. Luke was the youngest participant and loves to wear his metal around town. They both plan to run in more races.
Callie and Luke lining up at the starting line. Callie is in the crowd somewhere. (I think the woman in black my have been confused as to which race she should be in.)

Jason signed up to run in the Hartford Extreme Scramble Series in Hartford. The series consists of three 5k races along the trials near the Connecticut River in downtown Hartford. He ran in the first of the three races a couple weeks ago. He, as expected, wasn't happy with his time, but hopes to do better this month.

Callie and Luke enjoying the free food and entertainment while wondering if Daddy will ever finish the race..."he is taking so long".
This is Jason trying to look like he is not totally exhausted as he approaches the finish line. His results are posted at http://coolrunning.com/results/08/ct/Jun26_Extrem_set1.shtml.

Celebrate West Hartford
Lots of fun at our local festival.
